The American Merchant Marine Memorial located in San Pedro, California was dedicated in 1989 and was the first National Merchant Marine Memorial in the United States. The vision for the Memorial was from American Merchant Mariners who bravely served their country during times of conflict. These mariners formed the American Merchant Marine Veterans Memorial Committee which designed, constructed, funded and today maintain the Memorial. The financial support for the Memorial comes from those who wish to truly honor and remember those brave mariners who sacrificed their lives for their country.
